Sorry for the blogging hiatus. I've been super busy, out of town 2 or 3 times, lost my blogging mojo, and have been dealing with super sick kids for over a week. I'm still not back in my groove, but I have to blog or I'll lose my mind dealing with the sick kiddos.
We went to Montgomery/Birmingham around February 15 to visit both sides of the family, and when we returned to Atlanta, both kids were sick. I thought they just had colds. After a few days of getting "better," we jetted to Nashville for a major consignment sale, grannie visit, and bestie time. When I got there that night, Harrison had a bunch of gunk in his eye and Emma had lime green snot. After waking up to Harrison having both eyes SEALED SHUT and a visit to an out of town pediatrician, Harrison was diagnosed with an ear infection and gross booger nose (official terminology) and Emma had a bad cold. Once we came home, I thought we were on the mend. Well, it is now March 6 and we are still struggling. Harrison has not stopped having diarrhea since we left for Nashville. After two trips to the doctor, they're still calling it a virus. I'm beginning to think it could be other things.
What are your thoughts on this?
A) gluten intolerance (which normally develops around 9 months of age)
B) lactose intolerance (no clue about this, but I just feel like the dia happens after eating) But, I can't stop giving him formula.
They sent off a diaper for lab testing to see if there was some kind of bacteria or infection going on. But basically, they're still saying it's from the amoxicillin (which we finished on Sunday).
I've had to change Harrison's sheets almost every night for the past week. From dia. Leakage. This morning, he woke up at 4:40 because of it and wouldn't go back to sleep. Y'all. 4:40. That's newborn stuff.
I just want it to stop. I just want to know what's wrong with my boy. Suggestions? Ideas? I'm open. Send help, please.
Also, Emma has vaginitis. I thought she had a UTI, so we went back to the doctor yesterday to find out what was going on there. And getting a urine sample from a 2.5 year old? Not easy. Or fun. Finally, we got one and they said it was negative for UTI, so it seems it's just vaginitis. Irritated. She won't pee pee on the potty. She says it hurts. Break my heart. Let's get these private area issues under control, stat.
Please and thank you.
So, that's what's been going on with us. Hopefully I'll catch back up and keep you all informed of our very exciting lives. :)

Girl that sucks. I'm so sorry. We've been sick here for the past month too, I'm so over it!
ReplyDeleteAs far as the dia thing- have you asked your doctor about giving H probiotics? ALL of us take them over here. Probiotics help the healthy bacteria in you gut to grow- and especially if he's taking antibiotics (which can give diahrea) it will counteract that. I'm not sure how young they recommend you to start on probiotics but I"m thinking if you can give them antibiotics surely you could give them the good stuff to help. That's my two cents. I'd get your family on probiotics stat. Go to a health food store and tell them you want "the good kind" (they are usually refrigerated).
just did a quick check, they make probiotic powder for infants (you can put it in his food). Also have you thought about switching to a different kind of formula (Hypoallergenic (or protein hydrolysate) formulas are easier to digest for baby and sometimes babies who are allergic to cows milk do better with this kind)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the sick kiddos - poor babies! And poor mom and dad! I know how tough it is. We went through the same thing for the past two weeks or so. B got sick and the antibiotics tore up her poor stomach. I wish they could find something easier on their tummies. Because it's still happening to H, sounds like it could be something else. If the doctor's tests come back negative, maybe switching formulas could help? Good luck to you!
ReplyDeleteGurl. I was right there with you. Gaines was on amox for 10 days with bronchilitis (I.e. upper respiratory) & was teething which we all know causes the diree. His bottom was bleeding!!!!! And those loose stools were happening like 8 times a day. I think its too early to consider an allergy or intollerance. Try some binding foods for a few days, nothing acidic. I had to withhold fruits for about 3 days bc that acid doesn't help. Also, my ped said all that mucus produced does have to come out somewhere other than the nose.....it also comes out via digestive track....you know how drainage runs down their throat? It goes to the tummy & along with the amox causes major tummy issues:( for food ideas, I gave Gaines mashed potatoes with grilled chicken & peas mixed in & baked sweet potatoes. I figured that covered basic food groups without major acid. My kids never have an appetite when they are sick though. Good luck! Hope everyone is better soon!

ReplyDeleteNannah, I am so sorry! Poor you and J and poor kiddos! I would definitely get H. on probiotics (powder can mix in yogurt), pedialite (sp?), bananas, applesauce, etc. Doesn't the pedialite come in milk flavor too? Use that in place of formula until the diarrhea stops? And poor Emma. What do you do for that? Could it be a yeast infection? God love all the Edwards and help get you back to normal!! I ♥ y'all!
ReplyDeleteOH my gosh.. the munchkin is just now getting over some horrible itchy vagina shit herself. It has been an extremely tough week! The doc called out some cream the other day and she is finally getting better. Thank god, I was about to rip all of my hair out! I hope you figure out what is going on with Harrison soon, poor baby!!
ReplyDeleteOh NO! Poor emma bears! I am so sorry about your illnesses. As you know sista I FEEL YA. Peebs dia JUST stopped and it was unusually long so whatever virus they got, was no quick one. That is a super long time for little harry to have it tho :(
ReplyDeleteOh my word...I am so sorry. I hope you guys are on the mend. You know I have no words of advice when it comes to kids, but it definitely sounds like something is triggering this. Bless their hearts!! Hang in there...
