Thoughts on showers and bed making

This going to be a riveting post today, folks. Especially for those of you without kids. (Insert sarcasm font here).

Today I want to know some things about how you run your life as a mom. Particularly, how do you coordinate showering and getting ready, as well as making your bed? I mean, I get the general point. But how do YOU, as a mother of young children, who are not self sufficient enough to entertain themselves while you bathe/fix hair/makeup, how do you do it? What are they doing? When are you doing this?

Ahh, the bed making. It bothers me when it's all scromply covers tossed about. Deeply. But, what to do? Make it at 2:00 while they nap? I feel like nap time (for me) is the time I'm folding laundry (another thing I want to know-when do you do it?), washing up dishes from the day, making the bed, taking a shower, or insert one of the other 309404 things moms need to get done. I'd like to sit and read blogs, blog, read a book, or do something enjoyable. Not feel like a maid. But, maybe this is life right now? Do you do all of this during naps?

So please, moms of all ages with kids of all ages. Tell me: when do you do the following things?

*Shower/get ready (Ugh, please don't tell me you rise at 5:00 to get ready.)
*Laundry-not the washing/drying, but the folding and putting away
*Bed making

Those things listed above? That doesn't even count the other things like cleaning, wrapping presents, addressing Christmas cards, spending time with husband, or general relaxation. There's only so much time you have at night after they're asleep. And I'm beat by then!

Please share!

And, because I feel like we need a picture.....

Not me. I promise. Good Lord.

Also, google 'bedraggled moms images' and see what comes up. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

  1. The munchkin goes to bed at 8:00 and thats when I start doing my list of chores. It's really my only time to get it done. I am going to miss that time once we have an infant in the house again.

  2. The only time I can take a shower is before hubby leaves for work. If we are going somewhere, then I put makeup on in the car in the pking lot. Laundry is tough with two kids. I'm doing a load every day that gets folded either at the end of nap time or during independent play. I'm bad about putting away so it usually stays in the chair for awhile and most likely gets put up while henry is in his high chair. I don't do anything productive after they go to bed with no guilt. Makes my days busier but everyone needs their down time.

  3. Duh, take it from a pro. Don't bathe.
Wash clothes and dry them, then don't fold them just wear out of dryer. And making beds is for your kids to do when they are older. :) Love you!

  4. Love this post, I have always wondered what the heck you did with them while you were in the shower! Ha. I am clueless on this stuff!! I can't even get everything done and I don't have any kids!! Just do the best you can, I guess. At the end of the day, I am sure your children aren't worried about if the laudry is done or if the dishes are clean... they are just happy to have their Mommy around!!! And, you sister's comment CRACKED me up!! LOL

  5. I fold laundry in the playroom...it just gets dumped in there until a time when we're in there and Nolan is playing. We either make the bed right when we wake up or don't make it at all....Not sure about the shower thing with two kiddos--seems like a bit of a challenge! With Nolan, I lock him in the bathroom with me with toys....all cabinets are childproofed so he just has to entertain himself for a few minutes.

  6. I am a Mom to a newly two year old and a two month old. I do the breakfast dishes and any left over from evening snacks when the baby goes down for her first nap around 9 then run around and tidy up what needs to be done; the two year old is playing at this time in the same room or the next one over (our downstairs in an open floor plan so he is always right there). Right after lunch i do our lunch dishes while the 2yo is finishes eating or playing and the baby is in the bouncy seat in the kitchen with me. The 2yo goes down for a nap at 1 and I go downstairs to run on the treadmill for 30-45 minutes; sometiems the baby is asleep, sometimes she just watches me and I jump off a few times to give her her paci. When I am done I run up and take a shower and usually right when I am done the 2yo is up from nap and baby is ready to eat. If I have to put away clothes (which I try to do in the evening once they are alseep) I will have them both in our bedroom, give the 2yo a coloring book, and work extreamly fast.

  7. Wells, I make our bed and fold laundry during nap time usually, but I also watch a good show on the DVR at the same tome and work on dinner prep. That is when it gets done, and you know I don't bathe so I can't help you with that one!

  8. Do not pay attention to your younger sister! She was a slob!! Shower, make up, and make beds BEFORE children get up (yes, I know, that is ridiculous but that's when it gets done). Fold clothes and the other junk when they are napping. Then, when Jason gets home, you just collapse and say, "Hon, I am exhausted.........."

  9. I put the first load of laundry in during Snack/Movie time, make the bed when he first goes to sleep, add clothes to the dryer, then shower/get ready and then fold clothes afterwards. If I have any time after that I chill/read/zone out...usually by the end of the laundry folding he is up. He sleeps for a freaking hour most days. Ugh! Now with two kiddos...I'm not sure how I'll roll with the chores. Just make the bed first thing in the morning yo. Might help with the first item on the checklist. :)
