Help Needed!

Shhh, it's me-I'm at work and I am supposed to be grading papers. Grades are due by this afternoon and I still have 2 sets of writing to get through. But, I am hoping you can help me.

I need a recommendation of a good devotional to do. My relationship with God is in a rut. I'm lucky to get out some measly prayers at night. I feel like something is lacking in a big way, and when I read many of your blogs, I feel that you know something I don't. I haven't been consistent in spending time in the Word, and I need to know what I can do about it. So, please tell me, what do you do, when do you do it, and how can I get my relationship right? Any and all suggestions welcome!

Thanks, and I hope you are all having a great Monday!
xoxo

  1. That's funny that you write this. This is actually my main goal for the new year--just to get more consistent with my daily devotionals and to grow in my walk (been bad about it lately). Anyway, I've been doing "Experiencing the Heart of Jesus" by Max Lucado. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. You'll definitely be using your Bible alot--looking up verses and whatnot, but it's not super time-consuming for the busy mom. It's been really enlightening for me. It's divided into lessons with 5 days each lesson. Some of the lessons (mini-studies) experiencing the care of Jesus, grace of Jesus, freedom, joy, power, love, forgiveness, etc. It's 10 lessons (5 days per lesson), studying one attribute each lesson. So if you do it 5 days a week, it would take 10 weeks to finish. It's a workbook too, so you can write down your thoughts and have it for reference later. Just something I've enjoyed and I'm 1/2 way through.

I'll definitely be praying for you girlie. I know it's hard to stay faithful with this stuff from personal experience, but I trust that if we make the time committment, He'll meet us there and make it well worth our while. I try to think about it like this....yes, there seems to be no time between chasing Braya around (literally) and getting other stuff done, but what's more important FOR her, my husband, my friends, myself than to strengthen my relationship with God? Time spent anywhere else will not be nearly as significant. Let's try to keep each other motivated in spending our time! I'd also LOVE to do a Beth Moore bible study too, but we'd need to get a group together. I heard her stuff is kind of time-consuming, but AMAZING. Just another idea. Love ya!

  2. Sus, I have been using My Utmost for His Highest. The readings are very short, and some are easy to digest, but some can be a little "heady" as well. I like it because it is organized by daily readings (i.e.- today I read Jan. 5th) and also references specific verses, but you don't have to look them up if you are short on time. I always seem to read something at just the right time! Hope this helps!

  3. Nannah, check out Grace for the Moment by Max Lucado. It's the new one, published 2009. It is a daily devotional and you might like it.
I love you! (and so does God!)

  4. Wells, I get daily devotionals by email from Christian Women Today. Its free and I am always on the computer so it was great for me to combine the 2. Plus I can read from anywhere, or even from my phone.
I think the "missing link" you speak of which I notice with myself as well, is a church social group. We need some church peers. or to get involved!

  5. Hey! Sus and LG, I have started going to CBS (Community Bible Study) and I LOVE it. It is a core group of girls and you meet once a week. They have them all over, I know there are several here in Bham. They have them in Atlanta and Nashville. If you go to communitybiblestudy(dot)org you can find them close to you. I like it because it is nondenominational and very helpful in getting you in the word! Plus it is really nice to get out and spend time with girls who are like you.
I didn't know anyone in my group, and it turned out that most of them were young, married teachers like me! You should check it out, it will help give you that social group that LG was talking about!
